Spence’s career began while attending college at
Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Working at the Lubbock
Horse Auction he started by writing sale tickets. He later sold used
equipment and livestock there. While in Lubbock, he gained
experience with local automobile sales and at the Lubbock
Stockyards. Numerous fundraisers and charity auctions also filled
his time spent at Texas Tech.
Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Business in 1993,
Spence entered graduate school at Oklahoma State University. While
in Oklahoma, Spence sold for various livestock markets and farm
sales. Taking his talent for selling in the quick-paced livestock
environment, he sold real estate for the Resolution Trust
Corporation throughout the United States.
As his graduate project, Spence traveled to South Africa in 1995 and
obtained a position as a consultant with Karoo-Ochse, the
continent's largest livestock merchandiser. While in South Africa he
was a key leader in their studstock division, assisting in the
merchandising of livestock, equipment and real estate by Western
methods of auctioneering. He was also instrumental in setting the
record for the highest priced sale of real estate. This sale
attracted international attention and buyers from throughout the
world, as it was a complete dispersal of an exotic game ranch.
For the past nine years, C. Jason Spence has been active in the San
Antonio Livestock Exposition Jr. Livestock Auction; he has served as
the lead auctioneer for the past six years. The year-long
fundraising efforts of the Auction Committee members make the sale a
success. But, all would be lost without Spence's enthusiasm and ring
presence which have acted as a catalyst to the success of the
auction in its pace and overall totals -- setting many records.
Along with Stock Shows, Spence also sells equipment and real estate
sales. His 20 plus years of selling experience shows regardless of
the arena.
In February of 2003 Spence started selling for Ritchie Brothers.
Ritchie Brothers is the world’s largest auction company specializing
in totally unreserved auctions. Working with Ritchie Brothers has
also given Spence the opportunity to sell over the Internet. This
has been one of the highlights of his auction career. October 2005
came Spence's break into selling purebred livestock, as he was one
of the auctioneers for the R. A. Brown Sale. This sale has helped
him open many doors into the purebred livestock world. Building
upon the R. A. Brown Sale, in January of 2006 Spence left Ritchie
Brothers to devote his more of his efforts on marketing livestock
and equipment. His selling skills have taken him around the world.
This past year he was the first American to sell at Roma, Queensland
Australia -- the largest cattle market in the world.
C. Jason Spence is a professional auctioneer that remains committed
