"...Selling the Best"

Our mission at Spence & Company is to provide each customer with the absolute best auction experience.  Each and every sale is custom-tailored to the needs of the individual consignors.  We identify the markets that are best suited for your group and then target those with the most effective media tools.  Our sale team is the best in the industry -- with each auctioneer being licensed, and office staff with expertise in advertising, accounting, and customer service.  Additionally, our ring and load-out crew are knowledgeable, experienced, and respectful of your livestock.  Our entire group is committed to delivering a professional and successful event.

Our marketing leaves nothing to chance.  For example, just one of our many Spring sales had direct mailings to over 4,000 customers, ads placed in 9 regional newspapers and trade publications with a coverage area of 100,000 square miles.  Radio ads were updated every 48 hours for 2 weeks prior to the sale.  Additionally, auction flyers were distributed in an 8 county area.  And direct personal contact was made with numerous dealers and lending institutions to promote the sale and confirm market conditions.

At your event, our manner of selling is quick and precise.  At the same Spring sale mentioned above, over two hundred and fifty consignments were sold in four hours.  Upon completion of the auction, all items were removed from the site within 72 hours and each consignor was paid within 3 business days.  Additionally, area lending institutions received an analysis of the sale results.

Successful sales are no accident — they are the direct result of executing a well-organized plan and a commitment to “...Selling the Best”

Spence’s career began while attending college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Working at the Lubbock Horse Auction he started by writing sale tickets. He later sold used equipment and livestock there. While in Lubbock, he gained experience with local automobile sales and at the Lubbock Stockyards. Numerous fundraisers and charity auctions also filled his time spent at Texas Tech.

Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Business in 1993, Spence entered graduate school at Oklahoma State University. While in Oklahoma, Spence sold for various livestock markets and farm sales. Taking his talent for selling in the quick-paced livestock environment, he sold real estate for the Resolution Trust Corporation throughout the United States.

As his graduate project, Spence traveled to South Africa in 1995 and obtained a position as a consultant with Karoo-Ochse, the continent's largest livestock merchandiser. While in South Africa he was a key leader in their studstock division, assisting in the merchandising of livestock, equipment and real estate by Western methods of auctioneering. He was also instrumental in setting the record for the highest priced sale of real estate.  This sale attracted international attention and buyers from throughout the world, as it was a complete dispersal of an exotic game ranch.

For the past nine years, C. Jason Spence has been active in the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Jr. Livestock Auction; he has served as the lead auctioneer for the past six years. The year-long fundraising efforts of the Auction Committee members make the sale a success. But, all would be lost without Spence's enthusiasm and ring presence which have acted as a catalyst to the success of the auction in its pace and overall totals -- setting many records. Along with Stock Shows, Spence also sells equipment and real estate sales. His 20 plus years of selling experience shows regardless of the arena.

In February of 2003 Spence started selling for Ritchie Brothers. Ritchie Brothers is the world’s largest auction company specializing in totally unreserved auctions. Working with Ritchie Brothers has also given Spence the opportunity to sell over the Internet. This has been one of the highlights of his auction career.   October 2005 came Spence's break into selling purebred livestock, as he was one of the auctioneers for the R. A. Brown Sale.  This sale has helped him open many doors into the purebred livestock world.  Building upon the R. A. Brown Sale, in January of 2006 Spence left Ritchie Brothers to devote his more of his efforts on marketing livestock and equipment.  His selling skills have taken him around the world.  This past year he was the first American to sell at Roma, Queensland Australia -- the largest cattle market in the world.

C. Jason Spence is a professional auctioneer that remains committed to making the auction process the most successful approach to merchandising and marketing. His clear, crisp chant, combined with a quick pace, enthusiasm and personality leads to an enjoyable and entertaining auction experience.
